Well abandonment and decommissioning
Lundin Energy has cessation plans for all wells in conformity with Norwegian regulations
Decommissioning plans must describe a proposal for disposal solutions, while accounting for technical, safety related, environmental and economic factors. Prior to decommissioning, an impact assessment is to be conducted.
Lundin Energy adheres to the highest standards in our facilities decommissioning and removal activities following the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the North-East Atlantic (the “OSPAR Convention” 98/3) which has been implemented in the Norwegian Petroleum Activities Act chapter 5. Well plugging and abandonment activities follow the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Regulations §5 which is based on the Norwegian oil and gas industry standard Norsok D-010. The Norwegian system further implies a “see-to-duty”, whereby oil companies have a duty to ensure that all contractors and sub-contractors comply with applicable regulations.
